Moving AVI Files to an iPad
Your iPad can play a variety of audio and video file types, including AVI video files that you transfer from your computer to the device. These files are played back using the default "Video" application on your iPad. Once you have copied your AVI file from your computer's hard drive to the iTunes library, you need only connect the iPad to your computer, transfer the file, and begin viewing it on your iPad.

1.
Launch iTunes.
-
2.
Click "File" at the top of the window, then click "Add File To Library."
-
3.
Browse to your AVI file, then double-click it to add it to your iTunes library.
-
4.
Connect the large end of your iPad USB cable to the port on the bottom of your iPad, then connect the other end to a USB port on your computer.
-
5.
Click your iPad under the "Devices" section in the column at the left side of the window.

Tips
- Not all AVI files can be moved to your iPad, as Apple's devices only support AVI files that are compatible with the Motion-JPEG standard. If your AVI file uses a different type of encoding, such as DIVX, then you will not be able to play the AVI file on your iPad.
- You can use a video converter, such as Handbrake, Videora iPod Converter, or the iPad Video Converter, to convert your AVI file to an iPad-compatible format.
