Construction is much better than I expected given the price, the wires seem decent quality (not too thin like other cheap hardware I've purchased in the past) although the MIDI plugs were a little hard to seat properly in the keyboard, likely attributed to a low-quality connector. Functionality doesn't seem to suffer from this.
It was plug-and-play if you don't mind the computer connecting to Windows Drivers database (a pleasant experience with a good internet connection).
LMMS was a bit confusing to set up for a first-timer, as the "MIDI" section in the config wasn't the place I need to configure it. Instead, the "MIDI" tab (opened by clicking on an instrument button) in the instrument properties was where the "USB Midi" device was listed. This isn't a fault of the cable though, just worth mentioning for anyone else buying this for LMMS music production.
As previous reviews explain, the round IN goes to OUT, OUT goes to IN. This is a silly fall-over from the early days of MIDI, so only confusing for MIDI first-timers, and the instructions provided state this clearly, so kudos to that.
The manual provided doesn't explain the "blinking" amber light, but it seems to represent that the MIDI software you are using is properly communicating with the device. i.e. The keys you hit are being recognized by the software, even if you don't hear them yet (see LMMS paragraph above).
Since LMMS is free, and this cable was around $5 shipped to the door, the term "Bargain" is a vast understatement. This is a steal and I highly recommend it for amateur music production.
I can confirm this works with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 and LMMS as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). As ebay would say, A++. :)
If you are interested in listening to something made with LMMS, search for "Tres Finocchiaro" on soundcloud. We have examples of Piano SoundFonts on a track titled "First Grade Rev. 04" which work great with this MIDI cable.
All in all this is a great cable.

EDIT: I am happy to report that after over a year of use, the cable is still working as intended with no noticeable problems. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.8, and my DAW selections include Pro Tools HD, Garage Band (yuk), Finale 2009, 2011, and 2012 (and it works for all of them), Logic Pro, and even Digital Performer 7. Remember, sometimes you have to select your keyboard in the preferences. So far, this has been one of my best investments for music production.
Overall, I recommend this product to people with a budget who need to hook a midi controller to a computer via USB and there are only MIDI IN and OUT ports on the back. All you do is hook the 'out' to the IN and the 'in' to the OUT and load your library; the rest is rudimentary from there. Keep in mind, though, that there are programs that require you to set the controller in the preferences, but that shouldn't take any more time than a few clicks or a google search for instructions. I will keep products like these in mind for the future. Considering the money I saved this time, it certainly seems worth the research
